Transforming souvenir shopping into meaningful memory (AGRIMONITOR)

O&L Leisure has announced their new reimagined approach to souvenir shopping, with the launch of its Leisure Chapter Store at the coast, which it says transforms each purchase into a meaningful memory.

According to the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group, debuting at the Strand Hotel in Swakopmund, Leisure Chapter invites local customers, national and international travellers to experience an artfully chosen journey of cultural discovery and sustainable connection.

“No longer just a traditional souvenir shop, Leisure Chapter represents a profound shift in how travellers can engage with and support Namibian and other African world-class Products,” said O&L.

The company said that each luxury item tells a story, transforming a purchase into a meaningful memory that extends far beyond a typical keepsake.

"We want our guests to take a piece of Africa’s story and soul home," Maryke van Lill, marketing manager at O&L Leisure said.

"Leisure Chapter is our invitation to local customers and travellers to become custodians of Africa’s rich cultural heritage, creating a lasting connection to the landscapes and communities they've explored and still wish to explore."

O&L executive chairman and managing director of O&L Leisure Sven Thieme said that this is retail elevated.

“It is a commitment to showcasing the extraordinary creativity of Namibian and African designers.”

He said that O&L Leisure invites guests to experience Namibia's soul through premium, African produced creations that transform purchases into meaningful memories and contributions to sustainable tourism.

According to O&L, Leisure Chapter stores are distinctively chosen spaces that reflect the unique character of each location.

The stores feature partnerships with remarkable social enterprises like Omba Arts Trust, a Namibian social enterprise that supports rural artisans by developing and marketing traditional crafts.

The company that skilled weavers from the Kavango and northern regions create unique baskets, while Ju/Hoansi San artisans from the Kalahari in Otjozondjupa and Omaheke craft intricate jewellery from ostrich eggshells, a 40 000-year-old tradition.

These handmade pieces preserve cultural heritage and provide sustainable livelihoods for marginalized communities.

“The boutique stores feature exclusively handcrafted, luxury products that not only support local economies but also preserve traditional artistic techniques for future generations. We wish to invite local, national and international travellers to visit the first Leisure Chapter store at the Strand Hotel Swakopmund and experience a new way of collecting memories,” said van Lill.
