#JustIn: Drought spurs livestock marketing surge
A total 318 017 livestock were marketed in the first quarter of the year, up 22% from the same three months in 2023.
This marks the highest level of marketing activity recorded during the first quarter of any year Simonis Storm (SS) has on record, the analysts say.
“The prolonged absence of adequate rainfall in specific regions has led farmers to prepare for a potential drought in 2024, driving the increase in livestock marketing during this period,” SS says in their analysis of the latest data.
