RMB, FNB launch investor scenarios booklet

FNB Namibia and RMB Namibia officially launched an Exchange Control (ExCon) Scenarios Booklet at the Namibia International Energy Conference (NIEC) 2026. Developed in collaboration with the Bank of Namibia, the guide aims to provide regulatory clarity and facilitate cross-border business as the country’s energy sector expands.

The booklet offers practical guidance for navigating complex financial requirements, addressing common challenges such as salary payments to foreign nationals and transactions involving international firms. Crucially, it includes a dedicated section for incoming investors, designed to streamline their entry into the Namibian market.

Removing regulatory uncertainty

Speaking at the launch, Angelique Peake, group head of oil and gas strategy at FirstRand Namibia, said the initiative was designed to foster confidence among global stakeholders.

"By translating exchange control regulations into real-world scenarios, we help remove uncertainty and enable sustainable growth," Peake said. "It provides certainty to businesses and investors operating in an increasingly complex environment."

The launch featured contributions from Olavi Hangula, coverage manager for Oil, Gas and Energy at RMB Namibia, and Carly van der Merwe, energy sector strategist at FNB Namibia.

Hangula emphasised that as international participation in Namibia’s energy sector grows, a shared understanding of financial processes is critical. "This booklet serves as a reference to help businesses transact confidently and compliantly," he said.

Industry momentum

Reflecting on the conference, Peake highlighted the significant presence of major offshore operators, particularly those active in the Walvis Bay and Lüderitz basins. She noted that with new exploration wells announced, the industry's momentum remains robust.

van der Merwe added that clear guidance for incoming investment is timely, noting that accessible regulatory information empowers investors to support Namibia’s long-term development objectives.

FNB and RMB Namibia reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing client education and proactive engagement, ensuring that financial solutions evolve alongside the nation’s regulatory landscape. The booklet will be distributed to stakeholders through the banks' respective relationship teams.
