LDV makes bold entrance with smart features, stylish design

The new LDV truck is turning heads with its smart technology, bold design and practical features. Karl-Heinz Eisenberg, sales manager at JAC Motors Windhoek, gave the My.na Cars team a closer look at what makes this vehicle stand out from others on the road.

One of the key features highlighted by Eisenberg is the camera system. The truck comes with four cameras that run at 1080p resolution. Although the exact frame rate is not confirmed, the cameras provide a clear and sharp view.

“They are crystal clear, and you can see everywhere you are going.” The camera system helps drivers feel safer and more confident, especially when parking or reversing. The front camera is placed in a strategic position, neatly tucked away under the front badge, making it hard to spot at first glance. This hidden design keeps the truck looking clean and stylish while still offering strong safety support. The mirrors also fold away neatly, adding to the smooth, modern look.

The exterior design also stands out. The door handles offer something unique: drivers can open the doors in two different ways. Like a regular car, they can pull the handle to open the door, or they can press a button to open it automatically. This feature is available on all doors. It is not commonly seen, even on luxury brands such as Mercedes, Rolls-Royce or Bentley.

Something different

LDV aims to be different and offer something special to its customers.

At the back, the tailgate is multifunctional. It can be used as a workbench, which is helpful for people who enjoy fishing or work in construction. If someone needs to change tools or prepare equipment, the tailgate provides a flat and practical surface to work on. There is also a built-in step that can be pulled out from the back, making it easier to climb into the truck bed. This is especially useful for people who are shorter or have knee problems. It also adds convenience for anyone wearing heels or a skirt, making it easier to step up without struggling. The step folds away neatly when not in use.

In addition, the tailgate includes cup holders, a small detail that makes a big difference. Whether someone is fishing, relaxing outdoors or watching a show, they can sit comfortably at the back of the truck and place their drink securely. It adds a sense of comfort and lifestyle to what is usually seen as a tough work vehicle.

Although Namibians call this type of vehicle a “bakkie,” Eisenberg made it clear that this is more than just that. He describes it as a truck, highlighting its size, strength and advanced features. The vehicle combines power with style and comfort.

Eisenberg also explains the meaning behind LDV. “Many people may not know the brand, but it has a long history in the automotive world. LDV stands for Leyland DAF Vehicles. The name originates from British motor companies with a strong heritage going back 60 to 70 years. The well-known Mini Cooper, made famous by the character Mr Bean, was originally built by a company called Leyland. Over time, these brands were bought and merged under new ownership. Today, LDV continues that legacy with modern technology and design.”
