FNB Namibia celebrates 20 years of the NamPharm Foundation’s impact

For many children in Namibia, living with a cleft lip or cleft palate is more than a physical condition, it is a daily struggle that affects speech, nutrition, social interaction, self-esteem, and overall quality of life. The condition also places immense emotional, financial, and social pressure on families who often lack the means to access specialised care.

For parents, the journey can be heart-wrenching. From the moment of birth, they face worry, stigma, and uncertainty about their child’s future. Children affected often endure challenges with eating, speaking, and integrating socially, which can impact their confidence and overall development.

It is against this backdrop that the Nampharm Foundation has dedicated itself to restoring more than just smiles. For 15 years, the foundation has provided free facial reconstructive surgery to children living with cleft lips and palates across Namibia. Their work has not only transformed the lives of these children but also alleviated the emotional and financial burdens faced by their families.

Nampharm, a leading healthcare organisation in Namibia, offers a range of services that include medical support, patient education, and access to specialised surgical care. Their foundation represents a beacon of hope for families navigating the complexities of facial reconstructive conditions.

This year, the Nampharm Foundation celebrated its 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner, a milestone event to mark two decades of growth and impact. On this special occasion, FNB Namibia, through the FirstRand Namibia Foundation, proudly contributed N$300 000 in support of the Foundation’s mission to provide free, world-class, holistic care to Namibian children born with facial deformities. Since 2019, FNB Namibia has invested a total of N$1.25 million towards the Foundation’s life-changing work.

“It has been an incredible journey walking alongside Nampharm,” said Revonia Job, group corporate social investment manager at FirstRand Namibia. “We have witnessed firsthand the remarkable work Nampharm does, and the difference it makes in the lives of children and their families is immeasurable. The Foundation’s work is not only transformative but deeply restorative; helping restore hope, confidence, and joy to families across the country.”

FNB Namibia has a deep-rooted commitment to the development of the Namibian people. Through the FirstRand Namibia Foundation, the bank actively invests in the Namibian people through its Community and Health Pillar, supporting initiatives that improve access to healthcare, enhance quality of life, and build stronger, more resilient communities.

The partnership between FNB Namibia and the Nampharm Foundation underscores a shared vision: a Namibia where children have access to critical healthcare services, regardless of their socio-economic background.

As the Nampharm Foundation marks this 20-year milestone, the impact of their work continues to resonate across the nation: one smile, one child, and one family at a time.
