Askari’s Uis Project finds tin, tantalum, lithium
The Uis Lithium Project could emerge as prospective miner Askari Metals’ big find following significant high grades of mineralisation in tin, and related minerals following exploration work.
The prospective miner is so confident, results obtained from exploration efforts are comparable to that of its successful neighbour, Andrada Mining, its director, Gino D’Anna said in a statement recently.
According to D’Anna, exploration work done had shown the potential for the existence of tin, which has seen its demand sky rocket in recent times, tantalum, used in the aerospace industry, and rubidium, used niche applications in telecom and medical imaging, within its exploration prospecting licence (EPL) 8535.
“The Uis Lithium Project is fast emerging as a serious strategic asset for the Company owing to its location along strike of the operating Uis Tin Mine. Historical exploration at the Uis Project has demonstrated significant high grades of mineralisation including tin, tantalum and rubidium, comparable with the results outlined by our neighbour, Andrada Mining Limited,” D’Anna said.
According to D’Anna, the project could lend itself towards being able to produce various metals and will further be driven by the surge in tin prices.
“The Uis Lithium Project is truly a polymetallic project offering significant economic upside. In an environment where the tin price is currently trading at US$31 275 per ton, the opportunity for Askari to follow up on previous exploration focused on developing the tin potential of the Uis Project is too hard to ignore,” D’Anna said.
According to D’Anna, the Uis Lithium Project represents a heavily underexplored opportunity and includes some spectacular historical exploration results which identified high-grade tin and tantalum mineralisation.
“These results demonstrate the significant exploration potential of the project area. Our initial exploration efforts have identified further high-grade tin and tantalum mineralisation at surface and in drill holes extending the zone of known mineralisation on EPL 8535,” he said.
The Uis Lithium Project covers about 308 square kilometers. The area is rich with over 120 pegmatite rock formations, many previously mined for tin and gemstones.
The project is conveniently located less than 5 kilometers from the town of Uis and just 2.5 kilometers from Andrada Mining’s Uis Mine, which holds an estimated 81 million tons of lithium-rich ore. Askari has said the project’s location and resources make it an exciting prospect for lithium mining, which is vital for batteries in electric vehicles and renewable energy storage.
