Swakopmund NCCI branch elects new leaders

The Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Swakopmund Branch recently concluded its elective process, officially ushering in a new Executive Committee.

The election took place on 1 July 2025, marking the end of the Branch’s interim leadership period and a renewed commitment to advancing the local business community’s interests.

The election session was officially opened by Swakopmund councillor, Heinrich Hafeni, who delivered remarks on behalf of Swakopmund mayor, Blasius Goraseb.

“We are reminded of the critical role the NCCI plays in shaping a resilient and inclusive business environment across Namibia,” Goraseb said. “We know that the strength of our towns and regions lies in the strength of our business community, and we commend the NCCI for continuing to lead by example in this regard,” Goraseb said.

Caroline Maswabi-Sibungo was elected as branch chairperson, and Carin Ziegel as vice-chairperson. The other members making up the branch's executive committee (exco) include Jerusa Hangula, Gawie Roodt, Moses Helao, Immanuel Hamadziripi and Bertha Iitana.

The elected individuals are all entrepreneurs in different sectors, such as engineering, property development, land surveying, accommodation, and manufacturing. The elections were conducted under the supervision of NCCI CEO, Titus Nampala, along with the NCCI Secretariat team.

In her acceptance speech, Maswabi-Sibungo expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead the business community, emphasiing the responsibility that lies ahead in transforming Swakopmund’s and the broader region’s economic potential into tangible outcomes. She pledged to continue strengthening collaboration between the private sector and local authority leadership to ensure that policies and strategies are conducive to investment and entrepreneurship.

To effectively carry out its mandate, the newly elected exco will undergo a structured induction and orientation process in the coming weeks.
