SanlamAllianz, ONE Empower youth through media training

The One Economy Foundation (ONE), in partnership with SanlamAllianz through its #BeFree Studio, has successfully concluded two intensive youth media capacity-building workshops at the #BeFree Youth Campus in Katutura, Windhoek. The Introduction to Radio Broadcasting Workshop took place from 04 to 05 March 2026, followed by the Podcast Production & Digital Content Creation Workshop from 21 to 23 April 2026.

12 young people were trained in radio broadcasting, ethical storytelling, podcast production, digital content creation, and media production workflows. The workshops form part of ONE’s broader mandate to equip young people with practical, employable skills while amplifying youth voices through responsible and impactful media, made possible through SanlamAllianz’s commitment to investing in Namibian youth.

Participants are also recording mock radio segments and developing podcast pilot episodes, strengthening their ability to engage audiences and contribute to youth-led platforms such as BeFree Radio and the BeFree Studio podcast network.

“At #BeFree Studio, our long-term vision is to grow this space into a leading youth-driven content hub, one that not only produces high-quality radio and podcast content but also nurtures a new generation of storytellers, producers, and digital creatives. We want this to be a space where young people move from learning to doing to leading,” said Julia Nampweya, senior operations manager at One Economy Foundation, during the opening remarks.

Speaking on the initiative, Laurencia Prinzonsky, marketing and communications manager, said: “At SanlamAllianz, we believe that equipping young people with practical and relevant skills is essential for building stronger communities. This workshop is creating a platform for young voices to be heard while empowering participants to tell their stories with confidence and purpose.”

A workshop participant, Ismael Sefanya, shared his experience: “It has been a wonderful experience learning the ins and outs of radio and podcasting. As someone already working on a podcast, being equipped with this knowledge allows us to share content with the public and create a meaningful and sustainable impact in our communities.”

The initiative responds to the growing demand among Namibian youth for practical media skills and platforms for self-expression.

This workshop forms part of a broader set of initiatives implemented by SanlamAllianz in collaboration with One Economy Foundation, including the “Don’t Touch Me, I Will Report You” campaign, the BeFree Cares Mobile Outreach, and the BeFree Youth Campus Clinic Storage Unit. These initiatives aim to strengthen sexual and reproductive health services while investing in community wellbeing.

Through this three-day workshop, SanlamAllianz and One Economy Foundation continue to create meaningful opportunities for young Namibians, empowering them with the skills, confidence, and platforms needed to thrive in an evolving digital and media landscape.
