Bank Windhoek exemplifies commitment to social value in Namibia

Bank Windhoek, through its substantial investments in community-enhancing projects, the promotion of sustainable development, and the support of inclusive growth. Since its inception 43 years ago, the bank’s initiatives extend beyond financial services, addressing critical social challenges through education, health and environmental sustainability endeavours, such as being the most significant contributor to the Capricorn Foundation annually.



Over the past year, the bank has invested N$10 million in the Capricorn Foundation, while contributing an additional N$2 million directly to projects such as the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project, Employee Empathy Project, Mathematics Training Workshop and the School Feeding Scheme. These Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives reflect the bank’s conviction that true value is measured through purpose-driven impact with a total investment of N$12 million for the just-ended financial year.

CSR initiatives



The Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project has raised N$38.4 million for the Cancer Association of Namibia over 25 years, making it one of the country’s most impactful and longest-running fundraising efforts.



In 2025, a total of N$2.5 million was raised through the Cancer Apple Project, and the project achieved the following impact:



• 2 210 women screened during the National Cancer Outreach programme.



• 331 men screened through the Rapid PSA Test Programme.



• 1 706 adults and children receiving full complimentary accommodation during treatments.



• 372 patients from previous applications are receiving additional support.



Many families across Namibia live in poverty, which results in famine due to limited access to food. The School Feeding Scheme is a partnership between Bank Windhoek and Imago Dei to provide meals weekly to children from impoverished communities. Since its inception in July 2023, the scheme has grown from supporting 1 600 primary school children to reaching more than 2 000 learners in 2025.



The Mathematics Training Workshop was initiated in response to learner performance trends at the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level (NSSCO) and Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary (NSSCAS) levels. In partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Africa Leadership Institute, close to 200 participants from 14 regions, the workshop to enhance the professional development of Grade 8 and 9 Mathematics teachers. Financial literacy training was also included to equip teachers with essential life skills.



The Grade 8 and 9 Mathematics Workshops have successfully achieved:



• Participation of 160 teachers from 14 regions of our country, which include Kavango East, Kavango West, Zambezi, Ohangwena and Omusati.



• Notable improvements in teachers’ subject knowledge, assessment techniques, and student engagement strategies.



• On average, close to 7 000 children have benefited from improved teaching techniques from teachers who attended the workshops.
