Megabuild opens Gobabis store in N$14m push

Pupkewitz Megabuild has opened a new store in Gobabis, marking the hardware and building supplies retailer's latest expansion into Namibia's regional towns as it celebrates 80 years of operation in the country.

The store, which required an investment of approximately N$14 million, has created 21 jobs and offers 1,200 square metres of retail space alongside 5,800 square metres of yard space. It stocks building and hardware products as well as agricultural supplies catering to the farming community of the Omaheke Region.

The official opening on 21 May was attended by Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate and Gobabis Mayor Elwin Gariseb, alongside regional leadership, company executives and community stakeholders.

Governor Nganate said private sector investment of this kind demonstrated confidence in local economies and created meaningful opportunities for employment and infrastructure development.

Mayor Gariseb welcomed the development, saying Gobabis was experiencing growth across housing, small business expansion, agriculture and public infrastructure — all of which depend on reliable access to building supplies.

"This investment strengthens our local economy, supports our builders and farmers, and creates opportunities that extend far beyond the store itself," he said.

Martin Schoeman, Managing Director of Pupkewitz Megabuild, said the opening reflected the company's broader purpose.

The Gobabis opening forms part of the company's strategy to expand its national footprint and strengthen its position in the building and DIY sector.
