NUST, Letshego partner for student welfare
The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has officially launched a fundraising initiative in support of the NUST Student Welfare Fund, in partnership with Letshego Namibia.
Led by the Alumni and NUST Foundation, the NUST and Letshego Fun Day will bring together corporate partners, alumni, staff, students and members of the public for a day of padel, seven-a-side football, networking and philanthropy. Organisers say the event is designed to foster meaningful connections, promote wellness and teamwork, and support initiatives that create a lasting impact.
Speaking at the launch, the director of the Alumni and NUST Foundation, Kaitira Kandjii, said the NUST Student Welfare Fund provided short-term financial assistance to students facing financial hardship.
"The fund bridges the gap where existing financial assistance may be insufficient to address a student's immediate needs," he said. "It is designed to support students whose academic progress may be threatened by temporary financial hardships, ensuring that deserving students can continue their studies and successfully pursue their educational goals."
Kandjii urged the corporate community to back the initiative, calling it an opportunity for businesses and partners to "join us in making a meaningful contribution to student success and well-being".
On behalf of Letshego Namibia, stakeholder engagement business partner Talishi Werner announced a sponsorship of N$50 000 in support of the event.
"We believe that improving lives is not just a tagline; it is a commitment we show up for every day," she said. "One of the most meaningful ways we do that is by investing in education, because we know that when a young person gets access to education, the ripple effect reaches families, communities, and the future of this nation."
The Fun Day will take place on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at LivPadel Courts in Windhoek, bringing together teams for friendly competition in padel and seven-a-side football.
Football teams of up to 10 players can enter for N$3 500 per team, while padel teams of two players can register for N$3 000 per team. Winning teams will compete for cash prizes.
Registrations close on Friday, 17 July 2026.
